On-Campus Writing Center

A-B Tech's on-campus Writing Center is open for Fall Semester 2017 in Don C. Locke Library, Room 125—lower level of the library.

On-campus hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Students in all of A-B Tech's curriculum programs and developmental courses are invited to work with one of our friendly tutors in the on-campus Writing Center on any phase of a writing assignment in any ABTCC course. Tutors can also help with speeches, university application essays, resumes, and submissions to The Rhapsodist, ABTCC’s literary journal.

Regular appointments (no referral required) for help with any phase of a writing assignment in any curriculum course are available Mon.-Thurs. from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Fri. from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Students may reserve these appointment times by entering the Moodle username and password at the “Schedule an Appointment” link on the Writing Center’s web page.

From 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Mon.-Fri. and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Fri., priority will be given to RISE walk-in sessions for improvement of graded papers (by instructor referral) and for help with fundamentals of grammar, usage, punctuation, and paragraph development (by instructor referral). RISE sessions are also available during all of the Writing Center’s other open hours. The new RISE electronic referral form and app. for use of the form are available on the Writing Center’s web page. Please note that the English Skills Lab is no longer operating; resources formerly provided by that service in Ferguson are now available through the RISE program in the Writing Center (Locke 125).

Remote tutoring via Skype is available to students attending classes at Madison Site, South Site, and the Woodfin Campus and to students in 100% online courses. Students may schedule Skype sessions by calling (828) 398-7218 during open hours (see above). These appointments must be made through the receptionist at least 48 hours in advance of a session. Madison, South, and Woodfin provide students with access to the site/campus Skype account. Students working from home must have a personal Skype account to use this resource.

The online Writing Center at writingcenter@abtech.edu will begin accepting submissions on Monday, August 14. An easy step-by-step process for submitting papers online is available at the Writing Center’s web page for online tutoring resources.
