Two Fine Arts Scholarships established

February 3, 2012

A-B Tech’s Fine Arts Department has established two scholarships from the proceeds of its 2011 summer visiting artist workshop series.

Last summer, the Fine Arts Department, with the A-B Tech Foundation, produced its first visiting workshop series. “We offered two three-day workshops. The first was photographer Tim Barnwell and the second was watercolorist Ann Vasilik,” said Sharon Trammel, Fine Arts Chair.

One scholarship will be awarded to a student in Art and the other in Drama. “We hope to continue to build the summer workshop series with all the proceeds going into these two student scholarship funds,” Trammel said.

Artists Kenn Kotara, John Dickson and Josephine Burgwyn Pratt will be featured at A-B Tech’s Summer Visiting Artist Workshop series for 2012. Kotara is a painter, sculptor, installation artist, graphic designer, printmaker and teacher. Dickson specializes in landscape photography and Pratt is a sculptor, who works in bronze and stoneware.

Kotata will teach Solarplate: Printmaking using the Sun from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 4-6. Dickson will instruct the Contemplative Black and White Landscape Image from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 26 and 27. Pratt’s class, Come Play with Clay, will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 17 and 18. All classes include lunch with a one-hour break. All workshops have limited enrollment and early registration is encouraged. For more information on the workshops, visit abtech.edu.
