The Institute for Climate Education at A-B Tech is dedicated to providing Asheville and surrounding communities with meaningful information about climate-related issues.
The Institute is working to actively engage the local community through classes, free seminars, public outreach and other activities that put climate change into terms that we can all relate to.
- How will a changing climate impact Western North Carolina?
- Will we experience more severe flooding, longer droughts, more harsh winters?
- What about changes to what we can grow and to our water supply?
Asheville is a unique place, not only because of its location in the Southern Appalachian Mountains, but because it is home to some of the Nation’s key assets related to climate data and information including NOAA’s National Climatic Data Center (NCDC), the U.S. Air Force’s 14th Weather Squadron (formerly the Air Force Combat Climatology Center), and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service’s Southern Research Station. That means that some of the best minds working on issues related to climate live right here.
The Institute develops opportunities to mix and mingle with these professionals one-on-one in the classroom, or at local events.
