Online Adult Basic Education/GED Preparation
What is Online Learning?
Before you get started, we must remind you that the official GED Tests cannot be taken online; beware of web sites and other sources that tell you otherwise. Read more about this on the GED Testing Service website Truth About GED Testing Online.
You can study for your TABE, Official Practice Tests (OPTs), GED and Accuplacer tests online wherever you have access to the Internet by enrolling in ABTech's online program called SkillsTutor. After completing your online study, these actual tests must be taken in person at the Asheville campus as well as other ABTech satellite locations.
Is Online Learning Right for Me?
- Are you self-motivated?
- Are you comfortable using computers?
- Can you commit to at least 3 hours online each week if you want to work online only?
- Can you commit to at least 30 minutes online each week if you are attending another lab class for at least 2.5 hours each week?
How to Enroll for Online Learning

Orientation is required for students interested in online learning. Call 828.254.1921 x433, or e-mail basicskillsrecruiter@abtech.edu. At your orientation session, you will be able to take an initial placement assessment. When you come back for advisement, you can enroll in the online program.
